In this lesson we see how God patiently prepares His servants to perform His service. It’s simply non-negotiable. A passionate friendship with God is a prerequisite to productive ministry for God. He is more than willing to endure our timid excuses to teach us the treasure of His Person and the trustworthiness of His promises. Mark it down! In this lesson, Gideon puts God to the test in his quest to discern God’s will. But God examines Gideon too, to discern if Gideon will do His will. How do we know if we’re disobeying God’s command, “You shall not tempt (test) the Lord your God?” (Matthew 4:8) Gideon will enlighten us. And how does God test us? How does the Lord discover if we are fit to fight His foes? He will inform us. Covers Judges 6:36 – 7:7.
In this lesson we discover how faith conquers fear and the passion God has for His own glory. Has God ever asked you to do something for Him that you felt inadequate to do? That’s what happened to Gideon. And from his story, God shows us (1) how to fight the good fight of faith instead of caving in to our fears and (2) our need to be zealous for God’s getting the glory He deserves. In this lesson we discover how a good beginning in our walk with God can turn into a bad ending. The Christian life is not a sprint but a marathon, which is why many churches lack long-time attendees. Many a saint breaks out of the starting blocks with a burst of energy for God, but somewhere along the track, they stumble and fail to rise. Being like Jesus means finishing the work God assigned us. In this lesson we discover the tell-tale signs of spiritual decline and God’s plan for restoration. Just as physical sickness manifests symptoms, so also symptoms of a relationship with God gone awry eventually exhibit themselves. The good news is that the Master Physician is always willing to provide a godly leader who will show us the path to spiritual health. Judges 10:6 – 11:25
In this lesson we see danger and regret of making rash vows to God. In the middle of a mess, we are prone to make promises to God: “If You get me out of this, Lord, I’ll go anywhere and do anything for You.” But once adversity has taken wings, so also has our vow. The Bible warns that it is better to promise God nothing than to promise Him anything, and then do nothing. Covers Judges 11:29 - 40.
In this lesson we marvel at the wisdom and sovereignty of God as He chooses and prepares His servants to do His work. When God prepares us for service, He provides divine resources and also prescribes human responsibilities. From His resources, God provides power through the Holy Spirit. Without Him we can do nothing for God. But our responsibility is to avoid anything that would prevent us from doing our assigned work. Covers Judges 13:1.
In this lesson we learn how sexual desire, like a runaway train, can destroy your life. The enemy knows where there are chinks in our armor – and is relentless in his resolve to ruin us. Though God can and does use us to do mighty things for His glory, He is under no obligation to continue using us if we dishonor Him by moral compromise. Eventually, He will remove His blessing from our life and ministry. Covers Judges 16.
In this lesson we see the destructive nature of sin, but the hope of God’s restoring mercy. Sin tastes good going down, but always leaves a bitter aftertaste. But if the depth of our repentance is greater than the depth of our sin, then there remains the joyful hope of God’s restoring mercy to both forgive out sin and once again enlist our service.
